Schneider + Schumacher to Design Staedel Extension

FRANKFURT—Local architects Schneider + Schumacher have been announced as the winners of a competition to design an extension to Frankfurt's Staedel Museum, the Web magazine dezeen reports. The design includes new halls underneath the museum's garden courtyard to house works from the second half of the 20th century. The roof of the hall will be convex and dotted with circular skylights, and the form and climate-control systems of the new spaces will be engineered to minimize energy consumption. Said the jury report: "Frankfurt not only receives a very special, unique new exhibition venue, but also a truly green building which is right at the height of its time." All competition entries can be seen at the museum from March 8 to 24.
