Erotic Picassos Disrupt School Tours in Northern Greece

THESSALONIKI, Greece—An exhibition of erotic prints by Pablo Picasso has caused controversy in this northern Greek city after parents and school officials questioned whether they were appropriate for minors, Agence France-Presse reports.

Schoolchildren visiting the city’s Telloglio Arts Centre were initially banned from seeing the exhibition of Picasso’s "Suite 347" — a series of late engravings on themes including the female nude, bullfighting, and flamenco. The decision was rescinded after education officials found that the normal school tour did not include the offending works.

"The works in question have been deemed unsuitable for pupils," said local secondary education director Theodoulos Tapanidis. "We had to examine the issue after complaints arose."
