Sotheby's to Sell Nasher Works

Published: March 14, 2008
NEW YORK—This spring, Sotheby's will auction about 200 works of art from the late Raymond Nasher's collection, reports the New York Times.

The Dallas real estate developer began arranging to sell some of the more than 1,000 artworks in his prominent collection — by such artists as Picasso, Dubuffet, Johns, and Lichtenstein — to provide an endowment for the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas before his death last year. The center is owned by the Nasher Foundation, the beneficiary of the Nasher estate.

Of the 200 works to hit the block, most will be offered in a single-owner auction on May 9. Several standout works will be included in the evening Impressionist, Modern and contemporary art sales in May; a few will be part of a sale of American art. The sales are expected to raise $30 million for the museum.
