CHICAGO—Three Europeans and four Americans from New York, Florida, and Illinois have been indicted for two art-fraud schemes that brought in a combined $5 million. The seven are charged with creating reproductions as well as selling counterfeit prints of the work of such artists as Picasso, Chagall, Warhol, and Calder. The fake prints were sold around the world, claims Chicago U.S Attorney General Patrick Fitzgerald, some on eBay and some through two dealers from Northbrook, Illinois, who are among the indicted.

One case involves Northbrook, Illinois, dealer James Kennedy, who is charged along with New York–based Leon Amiel Jr. The two face nine counts of fraud and a claim for $1 million. The other, larger case, involves five people who face 10 counts of fraud and a demand for $4 million. The counterfeits in the second case were imported from Europe and sold through Northbrook dealer Michael Zabrin.

Kennedy is the only defendant currently in jail. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 24.
