PHILADELPHIA—The 47th edition of the Philadelphia Antiques Show, which runs April 12 through 15, features folk and fine art alongside silver, textiles, furniture and much more. The event’s move this year to the Navy Yard has sent a few ripples of controversy through the antiques world. First, the gallery count was cut to 51 so that everyone could fit in the new space, and then several participants reportedly complained about booth placement and prices, with a few dealers—including Philadelphia’s Elle Shushan and James and Nancy Glazer of Maine—choosing not to return. Nevertheless, the fair, which has been called the most important showcase for Americana, promises an impressive turnout this year. New Hope, Pennsylvania–based Olde Hope Antiques is offering a rare stoneware crock lid, for $72,000. The piece was made around 1880 to 1910 and likely topped a pot used to hold towels in a Midwest barbershop. And Calderwood Gallery, also of Philadelphia, is bringing an exquisite French Art Deco cabinet priced around $60,000.
