NEW YORK—The first winners of the Altoids Award, sponsored by the maker of the curiously strong mint, have been announced, reports the New York Times. Each winner of the biennial arts award will receive $25,000 and be part of a group exhibition at the New Museum of Contemporary Art.

The four winners are Ei Arakawa, 31, a Japanese-born performance artist living in New York; Michael Patterson-Carver, 49, a Portland, Oregon-based artist who creates drawings of protests; Lauren Kelley, 32, an animation artist from Houston; and Michael Stickrod, 29, a filmmaker from New Haven.

The winners were selected from among 64 nominees by a jury of artists Paul McCarthy, Cindy Sherman, and Rirkrit Tiravanija. The exhibition, on view from June 25 through October 12, will be organized by Massimiliano Gioni, director of special exhibitions at the New Museum.
