BASEL—Thomas Hirschhorn's 2003 work Hotel Democracy, previously shown at Tate Modern in 2003, will be erected at the contemporary art fair Art Basel, which takes place every June in Switzerland, reports the New York Times.
The two-story, 44-room artwork features walls covered with photographs of people fighting for democracy taken from newspapers and magazines. It will take one week to install and is described by Peter Vetsch, communications manager of Art Basel as “a huge doll’s house.” Hirschhorn's dealer, Stephen Friedman Gallery, is offering the work for $652,730. |
