Design Miami in New York

NEW YORK—For a change of pace from the mad hubbub of the Armory Show (VIP preview March 26, general admission March 27-30), 11 design galleries affiliated with the Design Miami art fair in December have mounted exhibitions of limited edition works and rare historical design to tart up the atmosphere surrounding the art market’s annual rite of spring. Now that collecting modern and contemporary design has become an ancillary activity to collecting contemporary art, the well-timed matrix of Design Miami shows provides a fitting backdrop to the larger Armory stage.
