DENVER—The city of Denver plans to launch a new contemporary arts biennial in the summer of 2010, Mayor John Hickenlooper has announced. The city has received a $2 million grant from the Colorado-based Boettcher Foundation. Additional funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Bonfils Stanton Foundation, Coors Brewing Company, and the Denver Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau will help round out the event's estimated $5–6 million budget.

The biennial will feature two major curated exhibitions. The first focuses on contemporary art throughout the Americas. The second is being called “an ideas pavilion” and is set to explore themes ranging from science to urban planning.
