PROVIDENCE, R.I.—
Rocco DeSimone, a former art dealer, will be sent back to New Jersey to face charges for escaping from federal prison camp after waiving his right to an initial court hearing in his home state of Rhode Island, the
Boston Globe reports. DeSimone allegedly escaped from a minimum-security prison camp in Fairton, N.J., on March 15 with the help of his wife, Gail. He surrendered four days later to authorities in Providence; his wife has been ordered into home confinement for harboring an escaped prisoner.
The former art dealer was convicted in 2005 of evading nearly $423,000 in taxes after he sold paintings by
Monet,
Renoir, and
Matisse.
