LUCCA, Italy—Italian police have recovered three stolen statues made by Colombian artist Fernando Botero. The statues were taken, along with four others, from the artist's house in Pietrasanta, Italy, last October. Police found the statues hidden in a car in the suburbs of Verona and believe they were to be smuggled out of the country. Two brothers have been arrested.

The seven statues are worth a combined €4 million ($6.3 million). Having been sold just before the theft, they were meant go on display in Monte Carlo a few days later. Police have called the theft a "made-to-order robbery."
