Does Frieze copublisher and art fair cofounder Matthew Slotover rank high on the Dia Art Foundation’s list of nominees for director? If the conversation at a recent New York gallery opening is anything to go by, the answer is yes. Several top art world figures, including a member of Slotover’s inner circle, were overheard discussing whether the London trailblazer should accept an offer to take over the post vacated by Jeffrey Weiss in March. Weiss, a former curator at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., resigned after just nine months on the job. One consideration that’s sure to be high up: whether Slotover would be willing to relocate, like his Frieze compatriot Amanda Sharp, to the other side of the pond. "On the Short List" originally appeared in the May 2008 issue of Art+Auction. For a complete list of articles from this issue available on ARTINFO, see Art+Auction's May 2008 Table of Contents.
