TORONTO—The inaugural Grange Prize for Contemporary Photography, co-sponsored by the Art Gallery of Ontario and the marketing company Aeroplan, will be awarded to Canadian photographer Sarah Anne Johnson, the Toronto Star reports. The $50,000 (U.S. $49,000) prize, the country's largest for photography, was decided through online voting. Johnson received 53 percent of 2,700 votes split among five international finalists for her realistic-looking images that merge fact and fantasy. She will show her work in an exhibition at AGO next spring and has said that she will use the prize money to buy a cabin in the woods near Lake Winnipeg.
