NEW YORK—A new interactive sculpture by Brooklyn artist James Yamada will debut Monday in Central Park's Doris C. Freedman Plaza at Fifth Avenue and 60th Street in New York, reports the New York Times.
Our Starry Night, a 12-foot-tall sculpture constructed from powder-coated aluminum and 1,900 L.E.D. lights, will serve as an entrance to the park; the lights will be activated when visitors pass through a metal detector hidden inside the structure. Yamada is known for creating works that promote awareness of surrounding environments. Rochelle Steiner, the director of the Public Art Fund, the nonprofit group behind the project, says the sculpture “touches on issues of surveillance and almost paranoia.” |
