Nothing Like a Nonprofit

NEW YORK—This week two of New York's favorite nonprofit art centers proved themselves the life of the party, with Creative Time hosting a benefit and the Drawing Center, a gala.

Over at Guastavino's, a New York architectural wonder space located under the 59th Street Bridge, Creative Time honored arts collector and patron — and Creative Time-proclaimed "jet setter" — Beth Rudin DeWoody on her birthday, April 23. The benefit also celebrated artists' projects across the country and included both silent and live auctions. Seen among partygoers were actress Karen Duffy, creative power couple David Byrne and Cindy Sherman, artist Francesco Clemente, and even Queen Noor of Jordan.

The Drawing Center's 2008 Gala, held on April 21, lauded the opening of the center's latest exhibition, "Frederick Kiesler: Co-Realities." Artist Kara Walker was also honored at the event, which included an exhibition preview at the center and rooftop cocktails and dinner in Tribeca. Though a more low-key affair, the center drew out its share of important art world figures, including Walker, artist Leonardo Drew, printer Gregory Burnet, and Whitney curator David Kiehl.
