German Police Seize Ancient Art Collection

MUNICH—German police have seized a collection of Mayan, Aztec, and Incan art from a warehouse in Munich, reports Deutsche Presse-Agentur. The collection, estimated to be worth $100 million, was apparently brought into Germany despite a Spanish ban.

According to the newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Spanish officials had previously sealed the items while awaiting legal procedures that would determine their owner. A Costa Rican art collector claims they are his. He organized the transport of the artifacts from Spain to Munich, although he could not produce an export permit upon request from the police.
