Street Artists Convene for Banksy "Cans Festival"By ARTINFO

Organized by anonymous street superstar Banksy, the "Cans Festival" opens to the public this weekend; until today the exact location was kept secret while the artists completed their work. Thousands are expected to attend the show, which includes several works by Banksy himself, and visitors are invited to contribute as well. Banksy rented the tunnel space from owner Eurostar, which has said it will leave the work in place for six months. "They were very happy with what they saw," said Banksy spokesperson Jo Brooks. “Graffiti doesn’t always spoil buildings. In fact, it’s the only way to improve a lot of them," said Banksy. "In the space of a few hours with a couple of hundred cans of paint I’m hoping we can transform a dark, forgotten filth pit into an oasis of beautiful art — in a dark, forgotten filth pit.” Among the artists taking part are Hugo Kaagman from the Netherlands, Dolk from Norway, and London-born, L.A.-based Leon. |
