BEIJING—Chinese museums and heritage sites are tightening their security after a full can of gasoline was found inside a world heritage site on April 22, the Chinese news agency Xinhua reports. The State Administration of Cultural Heritage would not name the site, which is open to the public, where it found a white plastic vessel filled with gasoline left next to a bench at about 5 pm.

The case is currently under police investigation. In the meantime, the SACH has issued a report requiring all museums and heritage sights to step up security. "Those refusing and failing to close security loopholes will be punished according to the law," it said. Inspectors will also be sent to popular heritage sites in cities that are scheduled to host Olympic programs.
