LOS ANGELES—The J. Paul Getty Trust has cut 114 jobs and a number of programs in an effort to streamline the trust's financial efforts and, in the words of CEO James Woods, "focus the Getty on the core mission of the visual arts," the Los Angeles Times reports. Most of the personnel cuts were accomplished by freezing positions and not filling vacancies when people quit or retired. Some voluntary buyout packages were offered as well, with only about 40 people losing their jobs. Spokesman Ron Hartwig said he did not believe the staff cuts extended to curators. Overall, the move has resulted in a 25 percent budget increase in the Getty's core arts programs.
