California Museums Band Together to Buy Mabry Work

LOS ANGELES—The Hammer Museum in Los Angeles and the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego have together acquired a 2008 bronze sculpture by L.A.-based artist Nathan Mabry, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Process Art (Dead Men Don't Make Sculpture) is a large-scale fake cast of Rodin's The Thinker, adorned with a bronze cast of a monstrous latex mask.

The sculpture joins 10 other Mabry works in the Hammer's collection. It is now on view in San Diego through May 2009 and will move to the L.A. museum next summer.
