Public outcry led the gallery to cancel the opening right before it was set to begin; police have now stepped in to conduct an investigation, and the show will remain closed until further notice. Police are also investigating the images on the gallery's Web site and have referred the issue to the Australian Communications and Media Authority. A superintendent told members of the press that the police plan to speak to the subjects of the photos and their parents before making any further decisions. A gallery spokeswoman told the press that she hoped the exhibition would be allowed to open. "It is a beautiful show," she said. |
