HOUSTON—Artadia: The Fund for Art and Dialogue has announced the recipients of its 2008 Artadia Awards for artists living and working in Houston. Three artists will receive $15,000 prizes — Delilah Montoya, Katrina Moorhead, and Floyd Newsum, Jr. — and seven will receive $1,500 — Mequitta Ahuja, Dawolu Jabari Anderson, Katy Heinlein, Lauren Kelley, El Franco Lee II, Lynne McCabe, and Stephanie Toppin.
The ten winners were selected from among a record 210 applicants from the region, 15 of whom were chosen for studio visits from the jury. Artadia was founded as The ArtCouncil in 1997 by collector and investment banker Christopher E. Vroom as a response to the discontinuation of the National Endowment for the Arts’ artist fellowships. Awards are funded by local and national donor and are also presented in Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco. |
