Manchester Museum Covers Unwrapped Mummies After Visitor Complaints

Manchester, England—The Manchester Museum in England has covered up several fully or partially unwrapped mummies in its collection after visitors complained that the dead should be treated with more respect and dignity, reports Agence France-Presse.

Outspoken Egyptian antiquities chief Zahi Hawass called the decision "a very important decision," adding: "I myself am with this position on an ethical basis, not a religious one. We don't want people to see our naked bodies when we are dead, so why should we allow ourselves to view the bodies and expose them in this manner?"

The mummies will be kept under wraps until a public consultation about how best to display these and other human remains can be completed.
