BRUSSELS—Years after it was originally conceived, a new museum dedicated to Belgian Surrealist master Rene Magritte is moving forward this week.

Scheduled to open on June 9 next year, the museum will feature 170 works by Magritte in about 27,000 square feet in the city's Hotel Altenloh, in the Musees Royaux des Beaux Arts complex, reports the Agence France-Presse. To celebrate the launch, the site was to be covered this week by a giant tarpaulin bearing the well-known Magritte work Empire of Light (1954).

The €4.5 million ($7.1 million) permanent exhibition is funded in part by the French conglomerate Suez.
