Genitalia Deck Chair Design Deemed Not for Public Use

LONDON—England's Royal Parks Foundation has rejected portrait painter Jonathan Yeo's design submitted for the foundation's annual deck chair promotion on the grounds that it is too pornographic. Yeo, who is known for using clippings from magazines in his portraits of such figures as George Bush and Paris Hilton, again used magazine clippings for his deck chair design — clippings of pictures of genitalia arranged in a leaf motif.

While the design has been rejected for use on actual chairs, because, according to a foundation spokeswoman, "For children or elderly people especially, it would not have been possible," it will be available for purchase from the foundation's Web site next month. "The images are quite graphic," Yeo said, "but unless you look very closely, you wouldn't notice that I've used details of the genitalia to look like the veins of the leaves."
