Salander's Obsessions SellBy ARTINFO

NEW YORK—Former dealer Lawrence Salander's carefully amassed luxury trappings are finding new homes as his estate liquidates objects whose ownership is not in dispute.
The estate sold off nearly 300 antique and semi-antique carpets at Tepper Galleries on Friday, according to Bloomberg, raising a total of about $250,000. None had pre-sale reserves, meaning the minimum bid was just $10; many sold below their high or even their low estimates. Salander and his wife, Julie, filed for bankruptcy protection in November, as did his Salander-O'Reilly Galleries, after several clients and artists filed lawsuits against the former dealer accusing him of reneging on debts and obligations. On June 7, Salander-O'Reilly's furniture and garden statuary will be sold by Stair Galleries in Hudson, New York. |
