DETROIT—Detroit police raided a party at the Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit this weekend, ticketing 130 people for loitering and impounding 44 vehicles, reports the Detroit Free Press.
Police said the raid targeted after-hours alcohol sales, illegal after 2 a.m. According to partygoers at the monthly Funk Night event, police burst into the party at 2:20 a.m. and forced people to the floor at gunpoint. Some alleged that the police were abusive. "There were serious civil liberties issues here," said CAID director Aaron Timlin, who said the crowd was composed largely of young suburbanites. Detroit police said no complaints have been filed about police procedure at the event. |
