Art Basel Edition

BASEL—Last week Basel was the place to be, as Art Basel and seven satellite fairs took over the Swiss city on the Rhine. This was the 39th edition of Art Basel, largely considered the most important on the international contemporary art fair circuit, and it drew roughly 60,000 visitors in five days (June 4 – 8) to its booths, exhibitions, public programs, and special events. Artists, gallerists, and celebrities from all over the globe turned up to buy art, sell art, party, and mingle. Among those who made the trip were Brad Pitt, Countess Celia von Bismarck, gallerists Arne Glimcher, Tony Shafrazi, and Larry Gagosian, MoMA president Glenn Lowry, and media mogul Peter Brant.
