CHICAGO—The painting recently
slashed with a key by a security guard at the
Carnegie Museum of Art actually belongs to the
Art Institute of Chicago, the
Chicago Tribune reports.
Night Sky #2, by
Vija Celmins, was originally reported as belonging to the Carnegie Museum, but was on loan from the AIC for "Life on Mars," the 2008
Carnegie International contemporary art show. AIC conservators are trying to determine if the 18-by-21 1/2-inch painting, which was returned to Chicago last week, is salvageable.
