Tracey Emin Gets First Retrospective, in EdinburghBy ARTINFO

“A Tracey Emin exhibition on this scale would be an event anywhere in the world," festival director Joanne Browne said. "That the exhibition is in Edinburgh in August and not in London speaks volumes for this city.” There are rumors that Emin has considered hiring a train to transport London-based art critics to Scotland for the show. Emin has yet to find a sponsor for the show, a difficulty the Times suggests is due to the controversial nature of Emin's work, such as her ground-breaking and high-profile Everyone I Have Ever Slept With (1963–1995), a tent adorned with more than a hundred names that was destroyed in a warehouse fire in 2004. The retrospective will be one of 50 exhibitions on view in public and private galleries during the festival; other featured artists include recent Turner Prize–winner Mark Wallinger and Scottish artist Elizabeth Blackadder. |
