BOSTON—The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston has reached its $500 million fund-raising goal, the largest sum for a campaign by an arts institution in Boston, reports the Boston Globe.
The bulk of the money will go to the museum's ongoing $345-million expansion. Designed by the London-based architecture firm Foster + Partners, the project will add galleries, a glass-enclosed courtyard, conservation facilities, and more amenities to the museum. Other funds will be set aside for endowment and programs. At a board meeting last Thursday, the MFA disclosed key contributionsreceived from major local figures. The West Wing will be named forJoyce and Edward Linde and their family in recognition of the more than$25 million they gave to the museum. Barbara and Ted Alfond, whohave given more than $10 million, will have their names on the 150-seatauditorium in the new Art of the Americas Wing, which will open in2010. The museum's 90 trustees contributed a total $260 million of the total, with 52 donating $1 million or more, according to MFA deputy director PatriciaJacoby. Three gifts of $10 million or more weremade anonymously. "We will keep going," said MFA director Malcolm Rogers. "Nonprofits never move entirely out of the fund-raising mode. We haven't set a new goal, but the work of raising resources for the museum is a constant one."
