Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron will design a new residential tower in Tribeca that will incorporate a monumental public sculpture at ground level by artist Anish Kapoor, according to the New York Times. The tower will rise at the intersection of Leonard and ChurchStreets, with Kapoor's sculpture fully integrated into thearchitecture. The real estate company, Alexico Group, has said a design will be released in the fall.
India–born, London–based Kapoor is known for his vast public sculptures like Sky Mirror, a convex, stainless steel, reflective sculpture that was installed at Rockefeller Center in 2006. Herzog & de Meuron recently designed the new national stadium for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
