The wax figure of Adolf Hitler at the new Madame Tussauds museum in Berlin whose head was ripped off by a visitor shortly after the museum opened this weekend will go back on display as soon as it has been repaired, the New York Times reports via Agence France-Presse. The figure, which depicts Hitler sitting grim and defeated behind a desk in his bunker, has elicited widespread commentary in Germany, including accusations that the museum's decision to include it was only a publicity stunt and in bad taste. The museum has responded that Hitler is an undeniable part of German history and that the figure was made with "sensitivity and respect." The vandal, identified only as Frank L., 41, said he came up with the idea over drinks with some friends, who dared him to do it, and that he regretted his actions. “I did not do it for money, nor for fame,” he told Die Welt, “though I suppose I will now be famous for a while.”
