Czech Artists to Be Retried

PRAGUE—A retrial has been ordered by an appeals court for seven Czech artists who hacked into a local weather broadcasting channel to show a made-up nuclear explosion in the Krkonose Mountains, the New York Times reports.

Members of the Prague–based Ztohoven art group were acquitted of spreading false information in March, after admitting to tampering with television equipment in order to broadcast footage of a bright flash of light followed by a mushroom cloud. The state prosecutor has appealed the acquittal, and an appeals court in Hradec Kralove overturned the ruling last week.

The group stated that the project aimed to show how reality could be re-created by the media. If the artists are found guilty, they face a maxiumum of three years jail time. The date for the retrial has not yet been set.
