SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y.—For the New York elite, summertime can mean only one thing: decamping for the Hamptons. This year the art world elite figured, why not do the same? Following the lead of the Scope Hamptons fair started in 2004, entrepreneur and art collector Rick Friedman decided to organize this year's debut Art Hamptons. The fair kicked off on July 10 with an opening gala that honored 97-year-old artist Will Barnet with a Hamptons Medal of the Arts. The rest of the action took place over the weekend, July 11–13, at the Bridgehampton Historical Society Grounds. Around the opening and over the rest of the weekend, ARTINFO spotted tons of gallerists, from New York's Joan Michelman, Leon Tovar, and Gary Snyder to London's Ray Waterhouse, plus artists Mark Wiener, Karen Maurer, and Peter Buchman.
