LONDON—The revamped Royal Festival Hall has been nominated for the United Kingdom's leading architecture prize, according to the Guardian. It is one of six contenders for the Royal Institute of British Architects' Stirling Prize, which honors the project "that has made the greatest contribution to British architecture in the past year."

Designed by Leslie Martin, Peter Moro, and Robert Matthew in 1951, the modernist hall is one of postwar Britain's most iconic buildings. It was restored last year by the Allies and Morrison firm, who also improved the concert hall's acoustics and added new restaurants and shops outside.

The other nominated buildings are public projects as well: the housing development Accordia (Cambridge), the Westminster Academy School at the Naim Dangoor Center (London), the Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena railway station (Amsterdam), the Manchester Civil Justice Center (Manchester), and the Nord Park cable railway (Austria).

This year's winner will be announced in Liverpool on October 11.
