NEW YORK/SANTA FE—Summer may be a quiet time in the art world, but last week the
New Museum and the
Museum of Modern Art turned up the volume in New York with exhibition openings. On the Bowery, the New Museum unveiled its apocalyptic summer show, "After Nature," on July 16, while the night before in midtown, MoMA opened its survey and celebration of prefabricated architecture, "Home Delivery." Both events were stylish affairs with versatile crowds. Art historian
Robert Hobbs, gallerist
Elizabeth Dee, and arts writer
Linda Yablonsky all turned up to gaze at
Maurizio Cattelan's headless, taxidermied horse skin at the New Museum, and businessman and billionaire
Henry Kravis, architect
Michael Haverland, and gallerist
Patrick Seguin could be seen milling around the pre-fab homes at MoMA.
Also, two weeks ago, New Mexico was in the limelight with
Art Santa Fe 2008, held July 10–13. This year the successful international fair switched from being a biennial to an annual event. ARTINFO caught up with some of the gallerists at the opening.
