PARIS—A group of French artists have expressed frustration at the lack of definite plans for the extension of the contemporary art space Palais de Tokyo, Artforum reports.

The project, launched in April 2007 by former minister of culture Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, was scheduled to be completed by 2010, but planning appears to have stalled. “Months have passed, and the minister of culture hasn’t taken any decision,” the artist Jean-Michel Othoniel told the Agence France-Presse. “It’s a great project, yet nothing is happening, and this total silence is not reassuring.”

The new space is intended to feature French artists and artists living in France. While it seems that preliminary studies are complete, there has been no announcement about an architectural competition, prompting a group of 30 artists to write an open letter to the newspaper Libération expressing their concern that the project will be compromised.

Comments from Olivier Kaeppelin, an art delegate for the current ministry of culture, indicate that finances for the project have not been fully secured.
