Fisk Appeals to Share CollectionBy ARTINFO

Fisk proposed a similar sharing scheme with Crystal Bridges earlier this year, but a judge in Davidson County, Tennessee, rejected the request on the grounds that it would go against the wishes of O'Keeffe, who donated the works to the university in 1949. Shortly thereafter, the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe took Fisk to court to gain possession of the collection, because the university was not exhibiting the works and had attempted to sell some of them. Nashville Chancellor Ellen Hobbs Lyle ruled that the collection would stay with Fisk, and she permanently banned the sale of the any of the 101 pieces and charged the school with displaying the art by October. Fisk is appealing that decision. The collection includes works by O'Keeffe, Picasso, and Renoir. Experts estimate it could be worth more than $100 million on the open market. |
