Published: August 19, 2008
The jury noted Trockel's influence and versatility as an artist, praising her "playful oscillation among drawing, sculpture, and video," informed by her interests in anthropology, sociology, and math. Trockel is the first German to be awarded the annual €55,000 ($80,000) prize, founded by the city in 2006. Previous winners include American artist Bruce Nauman and South African painter Marlene Dumas. The prize was awarded in a ceremony last Friday. |
