Damien Hirst's "Aurothioglucose" (2008) will be shown in the Hamptons on August 28 as part of a preview of the artist's auction at Sotheby's London on September 15–16.
LONDON—
Sotheby's has announced it will preview its upcoming landmark sale of
Damien Hirst works straight from the studio, titled "Beautiful Inside My Head Forever," in two unlikely locations: the Hamptons and New Delhi, reports Bloomberg.
In the Hamptons, ten works will be shown at a reception on August 28 at the private
Bridge Club in Bridgehampton, reported to charge $600,000 a year in membership fees. Two days earlier, a similar event will be held in New Delhi's chic
Oberoi Hotel, where 14 works will be on display. That show will open to the public on August 28.
"In order to secure a sale, auctioneers have to promise to do innovative things,"
Philip Hoffman, chief executive of the
Fine Art Fund, told Bloomberg. "They have to come up with something different from the usual previews in New York and London."
The sale itself will take place in London on September 15–16. The 223 lots on offer, including examples of Hirst's well-known dot, butterfly, and formaldehyde works, are expected to earn a total upwards of $120 million.
