The New Delhi–based Foundation for Indian Contemporary Art (FICA), has awarded its 2008 emerging artist award to Sandip Pisalkar, a sculptor from Baroda, and Shumona Goel, a Bombay-based artist who works in film, video, and photography. The winners were chosen by a jury composed of artists Atul Dodiya, Subodh Gupta, and Shilpa Gupta and art historians/critics Annapurna Garimella and Anshuman Dasgupta.
The award, now in its second year, is intended to promote the careers of young artists working in India. The winners receive solo exhibitions at the Vadehra Art Gallery in New Delhi and a two-month studio residency.
