Curator Tom Morton found the 103 items in the exhibition by typing the word “conceptual” into eBay’s search engine. He purchased the pieces over a 10-day period using a modest budget of £5,000 ($9,300). The Hayward has called "View Basket" an exhibition of "thrift store" art. According to the museum, the show’s aim is "to explore questions of how art is circulated, and how its provenance affects its cultural value." "Every piece is, I think, visually interesting,” said Morton. “Whether it is good art and by what criteria it is judged, I leave up to the viewer." |
