BANATSKI SOKOLAC, Serbia—A statue of the legendary reggae star Bob Marley was unveiled in the Serbian village Banatski Sokolac, reports the New York Times. The statue, by Croatian artist Davor Dukic, is intended to promote peace and tolerance and was erected in a midnight ceremony, while musicians from Croatia and Serbia looked on. The inscription reads "Bob Marley — fighter for freedom armed with a guitar."
Serbian villages have a history of erecting statues that honor pop culture heroes, including Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa and Johnny Weissmuller as Tarzan. |
