LONDON—British Culture Minister Margaret Hodge has announced that 31 English museums will receive a total of £4 million ($7.3 million) in grants.
Jointly provided by the department for culture, media, and sport and the Wolfson Foundation, the grants are intended to improve the quality of museum displays and enhance visitor experience. Among the exhibitions to benefit from the funds are the Egyptian collections at the Ipswich Museum, a display at Norwich Castle on its 500 years as a county jail — focusing on the people who worked and served time there — and a presentation on animal extinction and climate change at the Manchester Museum. This is the seventh year of the DCMS/Wolfson Foundation Museums & Galleries Improvement Fund, which distributes £4 million each year to eligible museums and galleries applying for extra funds. |
