NEW YORK—The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation has announced its receipt of a $1 million Chairman's Special Award from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The award will go to the Guggenheim Museum's upcoming exhibition "The Third Mind: American Artists Contemplate Asia, 1860–1989," which examines the impact of Asian art, literature, music, and philosophy on American art.

"The Third Mind" will feature roughly 270 works by over 100 artists, including Mary Cassatt, Ezra Pound, Ad Reinhardt, Dav Flavin, and Yoko Ono. It will be on view in New York from January 30 through April 19, 2009, after which it will tour nationally.

The Guggenheim is the only museum receiving the Chairman's Special Award for an America's Historical and Cultural Organizations implementation grant in this cycle. The award represents the highest level of possible funding for a single project.
