VENICE—The new film by Japanese director Takeshi Kitano, which debuted yesterday at the Venice film festival, is a comic take on what he calls the cruelty of the art world, reports Reuters.
The film, entitled Achilles and the Tortoise, lampoons the pretensions and lack of scruples of dealers and satirizes the crisis of a disillusioned artist whose devotion to his craft has tragicomic consequences. Achilles and the Tortoise is the final film in Kitano's trilogy on entertainment and art that also included Takeshis' (2005) and Glory to the Filmmaker! (2007). The director won the Golden Lion at Venice in 1997 for Hana-Bi. |
