On the occasion of the three year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the notorious street artist Banksy has targeted New Orleans, creating more than a dozen murals around the city, reports the New York Times. Among they diverse subjects are an old man in a rocking chair with an American flag below the words “No Loitering,” Abraham Lincoln as a homeless man pushing a basket, a boy on a swing made out of a life preserver, and a marching band wearing gas masks.
The artist released a statement on Thursday saying that he “wanted to make a statement about the state of the clean up operation” three years after the disaster. He added that the murals were also a response to the anti-graffiti campaigner Fred Radtke, also known as the Gray Ghost, who covers up graffiti with gray paint.
