Olafur Eliasson's "The New York City Waterfalls" (2008) will see its hours of operation reduced due to damaged plants along the Brooklyn waterfront.

NEW YORK—City officials have reduced the hours that Olafur Eliasson's four towering waterfalls in the East River are in operation after complaints that the salty spray they generate has damaged plants along the Brooklyn waterfront, reports the New York Times.

Starting next Monday, September 8, the four structures in the New York City Waterfalls project will operate about 50 hours a week instead of 101.

The Brooklyn Heights Association had asked the city to dismantle the waterfalls after Labor Day instead of on October 13 as scheduled.

The new hours will be 12:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday through Sunday and 5:30 to 9 p.m. Monday and Wednesday.
