NEW YORK—Archaeologists have discovered 89 relics from Islamic and Buddhist civilizations from the Bactrian era in central Afghanistan, reports the New York Times. Among the found artifacts are coins, ceramics, and a badly damaged 62-foot Buddha statue from the 3rd century. The discovery was made in the province of Bamiyan, near the ruins of statues destroyed by the Taliban seven years ago.
